Join us as we celebrate Seniors' Week June 7-13, 2021 with free online activities for the senior community!
During the first full week of June, Albertans show appreciation for the many contributions that seniors have made to our community.
Seniors' Week is a time to commemorate the positivity of active living and learning at any age. Although NESA acknowledges this all year round, we are pleased to be able to offer the senior community a week of celebration. While this year's celebration has to be done virtually, we hope you will join us for an action-packed week of programs and activities! As way of saying thank you and for showing gratitude for all of Alberta's amazing seniors, we would like to gift you with a week of free activities and programs!

Join the eOne Fitness Instructors for an Essentrics class! This class is aimed at regaining your mobility while slowly building strength and reawakening the power of your 650 muscles. This is a slower paced class and is designed for those who have muscle stiffness/atrophy, frozen shoulder, chronic aches and pains, and for those who are beginning to exercise after being inactive. Ideal for seniors who are looking for a gentle, slow tempo class that focuses on improving mobility, balance and strength. Level 1 – Gentle Fitness, standing and chair work.

Creativity is one of the three pillars to healthy aging. Seeking out and engaging in creative activities has enabled many seniors to manage isolation, even before the limitations to their lives presented by COVID. Join Dorothy Lowrie from Human Learning Architecture for a presentation that will explore current research into how and why creativity is such an important element to healthy living – at any age. The presentation will also introduce a legacy creativity project that will be offered as a program at NESA in the upcoming months. This future program will focus on a process of life reflection; how use key life moments to create a life legacy story and the program and will include the actual recording of your 3 – 4 min. legacy story.

Debbie is excited about the possibility of returning to teach art at NESA in the Fall, granted the center is ready and able to reopen! In fact, join Debbie in a mini session that will isolate one section of the Fall 2021 project and create a small vignette of a red barn at the break of day.
*Please prepare any oil painting supplies you have for this art workshop. Recommended supplies include but are not mandatory for participation: Oil paints i.e.: titanium white, phthalate blue, cadmium red, cadmium orange, paynes grey, cadmium yellow and burnt umber, an 8 x 10 canvas or canvas board, and assorted bristle and synthetic brushes: 6 Filbert bristle, 4 short flat bright synthetic, 2 liner, 3/8 bristle angular brush. Regular painting supplies like paper towels, thinner, transfer paper etc. are also recommended.*

Relieve daily stress with a guided relaxation in each session. This welcoming and well-rounded class is open to all, beginners and experienced yogis of all ages, abilities and body types.
